How To Remove a Hard Drive
Removing a hard drive can be intimidating
All right. So here we have your basic Dell computer on. See a problem where you need to replace your hard drive. So let's take this Dell computer, for example. This is, an older model, it's a clam shell design, it's probably one of the worst designs. Has a button on top that you gotta push in. At the same time, you gotta push the one on the bottom in, in order to open it up. Down here, push these two buttons in. Picks it up that. All right. See what we got here.
Now, you got two basic types of hard drives. You have your I.D.E. hard drive, connects to a cable that looks like this when it's plugged in. And then you have your serial ATA hard drives, it plugs into this tiny little cable like this. Let's see, this particular model has serial ATA hard drives, so it's really easy. And most the times, the hard drives are screwed into the side of the tower, and there's about two screws here, sometimes they do four screws, in which case you gotta slide out the other side, undo the other screws.
Now, Dell's, they usually have these sliding little fancy pads and stuff, and this particular one has sliding tabs. So you just push in the two tabs, slide out this hard drive. All right. Let me just unplug the serial ATA, unplug the power, and then you got your hard drive out. And then when you get your new hard drive, you gotta undo the four screws that are on here. You're gonna put these two sliding rails back onto the new hard drive, and then we'll put it back in.
